Home Sweet Home! - Day 39 - Evening (3/16)

Bill is home and is doing very well! He came home on Thursday afternoon and was tired the first few days and nights. Our whole family was exhausted and spent the weekend catching up on some much needed sleep and resting! We spent the weekend relaxing, sleeping and eating - it felt like a holiday weekend! Friday night we had a Papa John's party at Bill's request - he had been wanting Papa John's pizza for some time so we all indulged in way to many pieces and enjoyed each and every piece. Saturday we all spent the day napping! I think all of our bodies finally reacted to the last 5 weeks of being constantly "on the go" and demanded sleep. It was wonderful! Bill's girlfriend Tess came to visit on Saturday as well which was so nice - her brother sent Bill a cool green Cub's hat in celebration of St. Patrick's Day! I will make sure Bill is sporting that hat tomorrow! Saturday night we had a family BBQ with chicken and steaks - we all chipped in and helped with preparation - and it was absolutely yummy! We followed up with brownies and ice cream - we all ate so much! Bill said it was the best meal he has had in 5 weeks! Mom and dad also enjoyed the change from the sandwiches and soup they have been eating at the hospital every night for the last 5 weeks. There were some glasses of wine and Guinness drank in early celebration of St. Patrick's day too (not Bill and I though!) - and some dancing which Bill and I did join in on! :)

The weather in Indianapolis was so beautiful on Saturday - high 60's and sunny - so we enjoyed BBQing and spending some time outside. Sunday was equally as beautiful and Bill enjoyed a walk outside - by Sunday his energy was very strong. Sunday morning started with Ryan and I making a trip to Dunkin Donuts to get Bill's favorite donut (Chocolate Coconut) - this was an idea brought up during our Saturday night dance party - we all started talking about our favorite Dunkin Donut - I can't remember the last time our family had donuts, but each person had a favorite and they were sure yummy! :) There was more napping and sleeping through out Sunday and more eating too! It was purely a weekend of renewal! We are all feeling much better because of it and our bodies are starting to come back to normal.

Bill is enjoying being at home so much - he had some fevers the first few nights but they have gone away for the most part now. He is loving sleeping in a real bed, not having anyone give him pills or take his blood in the middle of the night, and mostly loving being able to look in the fridge and eat whatever he wants!

Today he went to the hospital for some blood work and we had wonderful news! His blood is growing back as expected - and is almost at normal levels. He will go back to the hospital on Thursday for some more blood work and the doctor will talk about some of the next steps ahead for Bill in his treatment.

Please continue to keep Bill in your prayers as his blood grows back and as our family and doctor's determine the next steps in this journey!
