Wonderful news to share! - Day 46 - Evening

Hello Everyone - I apologize for the brief hiatus! I just wanted to share some WONDERFUL news we had regarding Bill's health this past week!

He went in for his blood test on Thursday. The doctor had told us earlier in the week that if his platelets were above 100 count, then they were going to proceed with the Spinal Lumbar puncture and the bone marrow biopsy. Bill's platelets were 146 on Thursday so they went ahead and did the tests that very day.

The bone marrow biopsy showed that Bill's induction chemo treatment put him into remission!! This means that as of now, the new blood his body is creating does not have any trace of leukemia in it!! We also found out the results of his lumbar puncture (which determines if leukemia is in his central nervous system) and these results showed no evidence of disease in his spinal fluid. THANK GOD!!!

As Bill has responded so well to the chemo so far, the doctor is recommending another five days of high dose consolidation chemotherapy which Bill will most likely start next week. He will most likely go into the hospital again on Monday or Tuesday to start this treatment and will then be able to come home after the treatment is completed. The chemo and recovery will take about another month, so Bill will be at my parents home for this time period.

So Bill is in a very healthy state at this point. He did have some chemotherapy injected into his spine on Thursday as a further precaution - this gave him some migraine headaches over, but they seem to have gotten better over the last day.

Thank you AGAIN for all your prayers - without them we would be lost. We still have many
hurdles to cross but we are very grateful for last weeks incredible results!

In terms of Bill's spirits, he is tracking he NCAA game scores meticulously. He, Ryan and I are looking up the tournament scores regularly - there seems to be quite a competition going - lots of text messaging back and forth. He has been enjoying the wonderful home-made cakes that my mom has been making round the clock - it always smells like a wonderful bakery when I stop by to visit - Cheesecake, Carrot Cake, Cinnamon cake...this is surely not good for our waistlines! He and my dad are also enjoying the wonderful dinners my mom has been making for them too - my mom is a true angel and her energy is awe-inspiring!! Thanks for all you do for us all Mom!!

As Bill's white blood cell counts are now much higher, we have been able to go out to restaurants and get out of the house a little more. We all went to a steakhouse in Broadripple on Friday night which was fun (probably not the best choice in retrospect for a Friday in lent, but we didn't think of that until we got there!) On Sunday, the weather here was truly gorgeous, so after Church we went to eat lunch at a restaurant that is located on Geist Reservoir - looking out at the water was truly relaxing and felt like we were on a mini - vacation. Then Ryan, Bill and I took our dog Sam for a short walk (waddle for me) on the Monon trail and rewarded ourselves with some ice cream afterwards :)

We are enjoying having Bill home in Indy so much - it is going to be hard for us all when he moves back to NYC. But we plan on enjoying this time with him while he is here!!
